About us

In alphabetical order, Mapkin is:

Chris Wells is our Pixel Polisher. As Creative Director of Folk Labs, Chris brings over 15 years of creative and technical experience to the team. He has worked with a diverse range of charities and international NGOs as well as central government, social impact organisations and arts groups. His strengths lie in strategic creativity & communications design for print and digital publishing, data visualisation, user interface design and content strategy for ethical and sustainable brands.

Helen Steer is our Project Pilot. She is a director of both City Farmers and Mission:Explore. She works in local food and play (sometimes both at the same time) and believes that maps and games have the power to tell stories, educate people and inspire meaningful change. She also likes to brew tasty booze with weird stuff she finds in the park.

Nicola Steer is our Data Wrangler. She is completing her final year of her degree in Environmental Science with the Open University, which she has done whilst working full time. She is interested in sustainable food production and effective recycling methods.

Paul Mackay is our Code Conjurer. He is a software developer with a wide experience of software technologies and platforms, particularly around mobile software and the Drupal Content Management Framework. He brings a passion for pragmatic development and open standards. This is combined with practical experience of permaculture, the Transition movement and local community building.

Peter Boyce is Captain Cartography. He is trained civil engineer and a director of City Farmers. Pete makes gorgeous maps out of open data for good people.
